H1N1 INFLUENZA

for students who are ill

Undergraduate and graduate students who think they may have H1N1 influenza should call Case Western Reserve University Health Services at 216.368.2450.

Symptoms of H1N1 and other influenza-like illnesses include:

  • Fever (higher than 100˚F or 37.8˚C)
  • Headache
  • Extreme tiredness
  • Dry cough
  • Runny or stuffy nose
  • Muscle aches
  • Sore throat
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends students with influenza- like illness stay at home, except to get medical care, until at least 24 hours after they are free of fever (100˚F or 37.8˚C) or free of signs of fever without use of fever-reducing medications.

For students living in residence halls or Greek housing, special accommodations and flu care kits also may be available from your resident assistants or fraternity administrators

The university’s Student Handbook states that students who are unable to attend classes because of illness should notify their instructors and make the appropriate arrangements. Instructors are expected to give students the opportunity to make up an examination or work that is missed provided the make-up work does not create any unreasonable burdens.
