Milestones
The School of Library Science was named the Matthew A. Baxter School of Information and Library Science.
1981
IBM released the 5150 Personal Computer. Selling for $3,000, it contained 16K to 256K RAM and  5-1/4” floppy disk drives.

 

1982
Sony introduced the first consumer compact disc player.
The Matthew A. Baxter School of Information and Library Science was closed.
1986
Space Shuttle Challenger was destroyed, killing all seven crew members.
Restructuring of Case Institute of Technology and Western Reserve College formed The Colleges.
1987
 
The University experienced the fifteenth consecutive year of operating budget surpluses.
