Respiratory Protection for Disposable Filtering Face Piece Units

Note: For full face and half face cartridge respirator use, call the EHS office for further assistance.

Respirator training and a fit test are required for any employee who must wear a respirator during the course of their employment. This includes medical students applying for an away rotation.

The following must be completed in order to fulfil the respirator protection process:

  1. Obtain Medical approval from CWRU Health Services to wear a respirator. Print the OSHA Respirator Medical Evaluation Questionnaire, fill out completely, and submit to CWRU Health Services. Please note - Approval may take up to 1-2 weeks.
  2. Register online for an upcoming Respiratory Protection Training Course. Respirator training classes are available the first Monday and third Thursday of every month.
  3. Obtain a respirator fit test. Fit tests are performed immediately after the training session for those who are medically cleared for respirator use.

Please Note: You are automatically enrolled for a fit test when you schedule your training. Your department is responsible for providing you a respirator. Please bring your respirator with you on the day of the training/fit test. If you are a new employee your manager and EHS will select the best respirator for your fit test.

Attention Medical Students – Contact your chosen rotation facility to obtain the type of respirator that will be available to you (e.g. 3M 1860). All medical students are responsible for procuring a respirator for the fit test.
