English Department Writing Competitions for Undergraduates

Entries Accepted between February 16, 2009 and March 2, 2009.

Please submit entries on disk and in hard copy to the Department of English, Guilford House, Room 106B. Award Announcement (PDF) Available Here.

    Essayists

    - The Karl Lemmerman Prize (for the best essay written by a first-year student)

    - The Holden Prize (for the best essay written by a sophomore, junior, or senior)

    Poets

    - The Finley Foster/Emily M. Hills Poetry Prize (for the best poem or group [3] of poems)

    - The Helen B. Sharnoff Award (for the best poem or group [3] of poems of some formal distinction by an undergraduate)

    Fiction Writers/Playwrights

    - The Edith Garber Krotinger Prize (for the best creative writing other than poetry)

    - The Eleanor Leuser Award (for the best writing for or about children by a creative writing student)

English Department Creative Writing Awards for Undergraduates

  • - The Charles E. Clemens Prize (for talent and accomplishment in creative writing)
  • - The Emily M. Hills Award (for the best poem or essay written by a woman in the College of Arts and Sciences)

 

Neil MacIntyre Memorial Prize

This prize recognizes the best scholarly paper written by an English Department graduate student. All entries must have been written by a student currently enrolled in a graduate degree program of the CWRU English Department and as part of their graduate work at CWRU.

Essays must be received by Tuesday, March 3, 2009. Email submissions (blinded essay plus a cover sheet identifying the entry) to: Frederica.Ward@case.edu.
