Campus in Context

Finding the Case Campus

One of Case’s greatest assets is its location. The University is just steps away from eight miles of interconnected parkland following Doan Brook to Lake Erie. Visitors arriving in University Circle are greeted by world-class architecture and cultural institutions such as the Cleveland Museum of Art and Severance Hall – both major features of our diverse campus.

However, these tremendous resources on our campus pose several challenges. Within the larger environment of University Circle, the Case campus lacks a strong identity of its own and conveys no strong sense of place or clear sense of arrival. Further, opportunities to connect to the surrounding landscape and cultural institutions have not been fully addressed as the University has worked to integrate its own internal environment. To address these challenges, the Master Plan proposes changes to the campus environment that emphasize the physical attributes of University Circle, the Campus landscape and its architecture, acknowledging the positive impact they have on the campus experience. Improvements to primary points of arrival onto the campus can strengthen the identity of Case through the addition of enhanced landscape and architecture, and through the use of consistent signage, lighting, landscape materials, and street furniture.

Case is proud to be the University of “University Circle.” We must continue to strengthen connections to our neighboring institutions and celebrate their presence in our campus environment, while simultaneously developing a network of campus spaces to strengthen the identity of Case and complement the campuses of our neighboring institutions.
