HOMEPAGE SURVEY

 

In 2006, the university conducted an on-line survey to gather feedback from its community on its main Web homepage. The survey was promoted on the main university homepage as well as in its daily, internal newsletter, Case Daily. Below is a summary of the survey results.

  • 36 percent staff
  • 11 percent faculty
  • 10 percent alumni and donors
  • 8 percent other

  • 13 percent “Other”

Using the university homepage, can you generally get to the information you need?

  • 58 percent said yes
  • 41 percent said no

How would you rate the overall organization of the homepage?

  • 54 percent rated the organization fair or poor

How do you most frequently find information within the university Web site?

  • 30 percent use search box on the homepage
  • 14 percent use bookmarks
  • 8 percent use a different search engine
  • 6 percent use school or department homepage
  • 5 percent use the MyCase portal
  • 5 percent said other

Links
Regarding actual links on the homepage:

  • 71 percent said the central navigation (links in the green box) are always or usually useful
  • 50 percent said the left navigation (three photos with word links) are rarely or never useful
  • 64 percent said the upper right navigation (home, directories and search links) are always or usually useful

Features
Regarding news and event features on the homepage:

  • 56 percent said the rotating news briefs with photos always or usually contain useful information
  • 58 percent said the news headlines always or usually contain useful information
  • 61 percent said the event highlights always or usually contain useful information
  • 48 percent said the the featured sites list always or usually contains useful information

Recommendations
Respondents were asked if they could add one thing to the university homepage, what would it be:

  • Link to graduate and professional school admissions
  • Stronger search options
  • More direct links to academics, general university departments, internal information, student services
  • Weather and access to e-mail
  • More on items of interest to the community (dental clinic, employment opportunities, etc.)
