University Seeks Community Input in Enhancing its Main Web Homepage
Case Western Reserve University has started to showcase its updated logo—as selected by the university community—in publications, on select merchandise and on the Web. In order to better highlight the new look, symbolic of the university’s traditions of academic excellence and breakthrough research, among others, in its digital communications, the university is requesting additional help from its community in enhancing its main homepage.
By updating its main homepage, the university plans not only to give its new visual identity greater visibility but also to better address the needs of its various audiences and better communicate its mission and values.
In this phase of community input, which begins today, faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends of the university are invited to participate in an online discussion regarding a university’s homepage in general. The university is asking for input around three questions:
- What are the two or three most important objectives of a university Web homepage?
- Who are the two or three most important audiences for a university Web homepage?
- What kinds of content would best meet those objectives and reach those audiences?
Members of the university community can participate in the discussion via the homepage project blog. Those with a Case network ID also can contribute through the online forum. Both discussions will remain open through August 31. Shortly thereafter a summary of both discussions will be posted to this homepage project Web site.
The next community input phases of the homepage project will include members of the university community testing two or three live prototypes and a follow-up usability and satisfaction survey.
