11. Adelbert Hall

Adelbert Hall is the administrative center of Case Western Reserve University. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, it is the original classroom building of Adelbert College. The building was a gift of Amasa Stone. In its early years, it also housed the college library as well as the offices of the college president and treasurer. The large boulders in from of the building (the front faces west, away from Adelbert Road) list the class winners of the historic Hudson Relay, an annual Hudson-to-Cleveland run which has ended at the building's front steps for 80 years. The Monroe Curtis cup, given to the relay's winning class, is inscribed, "This race is not the ordinary run of experience."

Originally built in 1882, Adelbert Hall was gutted by fire on June 23, 1991. It has been completely rebuilt on the inside and now again houses the Office of the President.
