Virtual Immersion Center for
Simulation Research

DEMONSTRATION -INTRODUCTION

Virtual Immersion Center for Simulation Research looks like a big movie theater, but without the seats and popcorn!

People with all kinds of speech and language disorders as well as students specializing in communication disorders come to the theater to see special movies called simulations. Simulation movies are special because instead of watching a movie, the patients with speech and language problems as well as students actually talk to the movies and the characters in the movies respond to them!

These simulation movies are able to work because while the patients and students are in the theater talking; there is an instructor behind the movie screens pushing computer buttons that make the movie react to what the patient or student is saying.

The interactive nature of VICSR is the unique element that makes this simulator one of the first of its kind.

*VICSR is scheduled to open FALL 2006 on the fourth floor of the Cleveland Hearing and Speech Center*
