Web Development Assistance

Marketing and Communication's Internal Communications group develops and maintains the main university Web site, secondary sites, and special sites for the university administration and provides templates, guidelines and advice to campus Web maintainers.
Our goal is to ensure that your web site supports both the missions and goals of your department—as well as those of site visitors—so as to provide a superior web experience through attractive, easily navigated Web designs that are consistent with the university's branding guidelines.
When developing a new site, or re-organizing an exisiting site, we recommend that you begin with our "Getting Started" checklist and begin to consider the following issues.
- Site mission
- Target audience
- Content development
- Integration with print media
- Companion Blogs
- Message to be communicated
- Flow Chart Development
- Site and Color Preferences
- Technical Requirements
Getting it down on paper.
As non-linear documents, websites come in a vast array of organizational structures. Our Planning your Web site tutorial will help you develop an organizational and navigational structure that most affectively communicates your message to your target audience. This will help you create a flow chart that will determine the size, shape, scope and timing of the project as well as recommending strategies for choosing content.
Putting the web site together.
Once the plan is in place, your web maintainer can download our templates and begin to add content and graphics to the pages.
Getting the Site Live.
During development, you and your colleagues should test for performance and reliability. When development is complete and you have reviewed all pages, your site can be moved to your production server.
