Editing and Writing

Do you suffer from fear of the blank page? Does even the idea of writing a journal entry or thank-you note make you sweat? On the other hand, maybe you're a writing machine, turning out journal articles, presentations, reports, book chapters, and grant proposals, but you wonder how to approach a brochure about your research center. Or maybe you have a clear sense of what you want to say, but no time to give your thoughts the professional treatment they deserve.
In any case, finding the right words for your ideas is not easy. It's both a craft and an art. And it's work. There are so many things to consider: What to say and to whom? Tone, word choice, length. How much to say or how little. When to say it, how often, where, and in what form.

We have developed the Case Editorial Style Guide to establish standards for written materials and to deal with style issues that arise in Case publications. Our primary dictionary is the Webster's College Dictionary, Fourth Edition. For situations not covered by the Case Editorial Style Guide, we use the Associated Press Stylebook and the Chicago Manual of Style, which ever is most appropriate.
