Project: Hurricane Katrina Website & Blog

In response to the devastation of Hurricane Katrina, the university sought to create a website that would serve as a central depository for information related to Case driven relief efforts, counseling, and incoming students from Tulane. Additionally we needed a way for all members of the Case community to post their own related announcements and to offer support to those affected by this event. This was accomplished through the creation of a blog that allows anyone to make comments on these topics.

Project: Page for Broadcast Center

The assignment was to design a page for the new Broadcast Center in the Varsity Athletics site. Their plan was to broadcast a series of games and make the feed available from their website. This would enable alumni and friends of Case anywhere in the country to hear the games LIVE. Also it would serve to promote the new football field at the Village at 115. Case had agreements with several local radio stations, sponsors for the project were on board, and what was needed now was a way to tie this all together.

The project involved a couple of issues that were unique to this site. One of these was the need to incorporate various logos for the sponsors. Usually Case's is the only logo on a page so this is not something we as Case designers usually have to plan for. Additionally, there were several organizations, and businesses all with competing logos, vying for space and well-deserved attention on the page.

We put them all together in a column on the right below the picture of the Case Football player. By grouping the logos this way you draw attention to them, yet the focus remains on the content -that all important stream, which is presumably the reason they came to the page in the first place!

Maintainance of the page was a consideration since each website on the aurora server has its own account manager who is responsible for editing the pages when needed. I coded it in a way so that the maintainer had as little to do as possible later. MediaVision provides the link to the stream, as well as an archive of the previous week's game. All that needs to be done to keep the site current from week to week, is to add the archived url to a list on the page, disable the link for the 'current game' stream, and wait 'til the Friday before the next game to make that link active again.
