About the Office

The Office of the Treasurer is responsible for maintaining university financial liquidity and investing the operating fund. It manages relationships with commercial and investment banks, credit rating agencies, and investors in the university's debt.

Case Western Reserve University The Office of the Treasurer invests the university's operating fund in accordance with the Operating Fund Investment Policy, adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2009. The Office oversees the issuance of university debt and manages the university's long- and short-term debt portfolios with a view toward achieving the lowest attainable cost of capital while minimizing interest-rate and other risks.

Within the University, the Office works directly with the Budget, Controller, Development, General Counsel, and Investments offices. It also meets regularly with the Finance Committee of the Board of Trustees.

On an external basis, the Office has regular contact with the Ohio Higher Educational Facility Commission, university bond counsel, and multiple providers of banking, financial advisory, underwriting, credit, and legal services.

The Office of the Treasurer is part of the Division of Finance. The Treasurer reports directly to the Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer. The Office of the Treasurer is staffed by three full-time professionals with expertise in all aspects of financial asset and liability management.
