Here you can find some information on the mission, creation, and composition of the SAB. For further information, see the Documents section.
Mission
According to our constitution the purpose of the SAB is as follows:
We believe that the SAGES program is integral to making Case Western Reserve University the most powerful learning environment in the world. To this purpose, we, the SAB, will strive to provide a stronger link between the SAGES administration and the student body as a whole, to assist in the preparation of new courses that fit both within SAGES criteria and the interests of students, and to promote the SAGES program to new and prospective students. It is our belief that the SAB will foster relations between the faculty, administration, and students of SAGES to the benefit of all.
Constitutional wording aside, the SAB is committed to improving communication between all parties in SAGES, providing resources and information for faculty and students, and facilitating outreach programs to educate others about SAGES.
History
The SAGES Student Advisory Board was founded in the Fall of 2003 by a group of students who felt that the SAGES program could be improved with a constant source of student input. In practice, they found that having a separate student organization working with the SAGES administration was mutually beneficial. It provided a place for students to voice concerns and suggestions, and it gave the administration a sounding board for new ideas.
Though the SAB has and continues to work closely with the administration of SAGES, the movement to create the SAB was entirely student-driven, and the organization itself is not a part of the official SAGES hierarchy. As a USG-sanctioned group, it has a faculty advisor, but the organization is entirely student-led and student-run.
Composition
The Student Advisory Board is led by a group of seven students that make up the Executive Board. Officially, we have four officers--the President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer--but the more important distinction among us is the representative. The Executive Board is required to have students representing each class in SAGES and at least one student enrolled in each of the four schools with undergraduate programs at Case. This is designed to give us an accurate representation of the student body in SAGES, be they nurses, engineers, scientists, management students, or liberal arts majors. The remainder of the SAB is made up of active members, students who have attended our meetings and/or are involved in our many activities. For further information, see our constitution (PDF file).
