The Richard A. Bloom, M.D., Award for Distinguished Teaching in the SAGES Program


Vanessa Hildebrand
, a visiting lecturer in anthropology, was the winner of the 2009 Richard A. Bloom, M.D., Award for Distinguished Teaching in the SAGES Program. She was nominated by her students. The Bloom award was established in 2008.

Criteria for Selection

The award is presented each year to a seminar leader who has provided distinguished teaching in the SAGES program. Each nominee must be an instructor of record during the current academic year.

Nomination Process
  • Nominations for the award are solicited annually.
  • All Case Western Reserve University undergraduate students and recent alumni (within two years of their graduation) may submit nominations.
  • Each nomination must identify the seminar in which the student interacted with the nominee and explain why the nominee deserves to be recognized for excellence in undergraduate teaching.
Selection Process

A selection committee of undergraduate students reviews the nominations and select one winner annually.
