Students take different kind of makeup test

What began as a study break for two students at Case's law school turned into something much more exciting: An appearance on a reality TV show.

Erin Pearl and Rebecca Wright, roommates and second-year students, recently were featured on an episode of The Learning Channel's "A Makeover Story." The show's premise is to perform makeovers for pairs who write to tell why they need or deserve makeovers. Both Wright and Pearl became fans of the show as undergraduate students.

"We came across the application to appear on the show when we were surfing the Web on a study break from exams last year," Wright recalled. "We decided to apply and used the reason that we are very different individuals. Erin is a 5-foot, 2-inch redhead from West Virginia and I'm a 5-foot, 9-inch Asian girl from California, and we both felt we could use some fashion help."

Pearl is a native of Wheeling, W.Va., while Wright was raised in Newport Beach, Calif.

The camera accompanied Pearl and Wright over three days as they picked out clothes from Lush, a boutique on Cleveland's Shaker Square (now in the Legacy Village shopping center), received fashionable haircuts and makeup styling from Scott Metzger Salon and visited tourist attractions in the Cleveland area. It ended with a party held at the Lola Bistro and Wine Bar in Cleveland's Tremont neighborhood, where the students modeled their new looks for friends and family members.

"We called the response shock and awe," Wright laughed. "Everyone was very impressed and thought it was a major improvement."
