Denise Douglas has been named Case Western Reserve University's
new associate dean of graduate studies.
Douglas, who previously served as director
of career planning and student life at the Weatherhead School of Management,
brings wide-ranging academic and administrative
experience in higher education, including teaching of management and career
skills to MBA students, curriculum planning, strategic planning, career counseling,
student recruitment and retention and student orientation programming.
As associate
dean, Douglas' primary responsibilities include oversight of graduate admission
procedures and operations; orientation for new students;
budgeting;
serving as adviser to the Graduate Student Senate; managing and maintaining
graduate school records, including graduation certification and tracking
academic progress; and assisting Dean Lenore Kola in activities related
to curriculum
and program development.
Prior to her arrival at Case in 2000, Douglas served as director
of internship programs at George Mason University's School of Information Technology
and Engineering in Fairfax, Va. She
also spent five years at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.,
managing student
recruitment
efforts at Georgetown's MBNA Career Education Center and working as
a special projects assistant at the Georgetown University Law Center.
Douglas
currently serves as co-chair of the Fringe Benefits Committee of the Case
Staff Advisory Council. Douglas also serves as a mentor
in Case's
Office
of Minority Affairs and is a member of both the Staff Advisory Board
and Strategic Planning Committee at the university's new Center for
Women.
A May 2004 doctorate candidate in higher education administration
at the University
of Minnesota, Douglas holds a master's degree in educational administration
from the University of Minnesota and received her bachelor's degree
in English from George Mason.
