The Dance Program in the department of theater and dance at Case Western Reserve
University will present three new works during the fall concert of the Mather
Dance Collective (MaDaCol).
Performances are 8 p.m. November 20 and 21 and 7
p.m. and 8:30 p.m. November 22 at Mather Dance Center.
Graduate student directors
Sharon Manuel and Sarah McCalister, along with full-time lecturer Beth Salemi,
will present new works featuring dancers
from the Case
community.
Using the third section of Steve Reich's "Drumming," Manuel
explores the relationship between the dancers in space in the same way
as Reich plays
with the percussion instruments rhythmically. McCalister works with music
that is the result of a collaboration among musicians including The Chieftains,
Bela Fleck and John Hiatt.
Salemi has set her dance work to a string
quartet composition that explores variations on the theme of "Waltzing
Matilda." The dance mirrors
the musical composition both in structure and tone.
No reservations
are needed. Tickets are $3 at the door. For information, call 216-368-6262.
