Case's annual Charity Choice campaign begins

Case Western Reserve University faculty and staff have one moreopportunity to help build stronger relationships between the university and the Cleveland community with the kickoff of the 2003-2004 Charity Choice campaign.

This year's campaign, which begins this week, continues through October 31. Pledge packets are being distributed to all employees.

As in past years, faculty and staff can designate contributions to Community Shares, United Way, Earth Share of Ohio or any specific agencies involved with these umbrella organizations.

"In my remarks to groups on and off campus over the past year, I have frequently mentioned that building a stronger and closer relationship with the Cleveland community is a very high priority for the university," said President Edward M. Hundert. "I've been pleased to see that so many of you have echoed those sentiments.

"It is in that spirit that I am delighted to be able to carry on the Charity Choice tradition here at the university," Hundert continued, "and I encourage you all to consider pledging your support to one or more of the three federated charities.

Co-chairs of this year's campaign are Grover C. "Cleve" Gilmore, dean of the Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, and Susan Shurin, vice president of the corporation.

Additional information will be available on the Charity Choice Web site. The URL will be included with pledge materials.

"Please help raise the resources that are needed by our community to provide critical services to individuals in need of assistance and to ensure that our environment remains protected," Hundert added. "By pledging our support, we confirm the university's commitment to our local community, just as we rely on outside support and the generosity of our alumni, corporations, foundations, government agencies and friends to help sustain our success."
