Mark G. Hans

Mark G. Hans is associate professor and chair of the Department of Orthodontics at the Case Western Reserve University School of Dental Medicine. He earned a Bachelor of Science in chemistry (1975) from Yale University and went on to study dentistry and orthodontics at Case, receiving his D.D.S. degree in 1979 and his M.S.D. in 1981.

Dr. Hans received the Harry Sicher Award from the American Association of Orthodontics for his Master's thesis. Since 1981, he has maintained an active orthodontic practice in Berea, Ohio.

He was named to the orthodontic faculty at the School of Dental Medicine in 1982, where he served as assistant clinical professor. In 1988, he became the research associate in the prestigious Bolton-Brush Growth Study Center. He was appointed associate director of the center in 1991.

In 1989, Dr. Hans was named Graduate Program Director and executive officer of the Orthodontic Department at Case. He received a promotion to associate professor in 1995 and subsequently became chair of the department.

He remains engaged in research. His main interests are assessment of orthodontic outcomes and the demographics of orthodontic practice, digital storage of radiographic data, dental and craniofacial genetics, and the orthodontist's role in Obstructive Sleep Apnea Syndrome. He has lectured extensively on those subjects worldwide. Dr. Hans is certified by the American Board of Orthodontics and is coauthor with Dr. Donald Enlow of the leading textbook on facial growth, Essentials of Facial Growth
