Weatherhead names new dean

Case Western Reserve University has appointed Kim S. Cameron dean of the Weatherhead School of Management, effective July 1.

Cameron has been associate dean of the Marriott School of Management at Brigham Young University since 1995. His responsibilities included the school's undergraduate and graduate degree programs and initiatives in curriculum redesign, distance education, and executive development. He holds the Ford Motor Company/Richard E. Cook Professor of Management chair.

From 1984-95, Cameron was a faculty member at the University of Michigan, where he chaired the Department of Organizational Behavior and directed a number of executive education and corporate partnership programs. Earlier, Cameron was director of the Organizational Studies division of the National Center for Higher Education Management Systems. In that position, he led a research team investigating how to effectively manage institutions of higher education. Prior to that, he held faculty positions at the University of Wisconsin and Ricks College in Idaho.

Cameron earned a B.S. in sociology and M.S. in social psychology from BYU, and an M.A. and Ph.D. in administrative sciences from Yale University. He has authored more than 75 articles and seven books, including Organizational Effectiveness, Developing Management Skills, Organizational Decline, and Management: A Practical Guide to Skill Development. He serves on the National Research Council, and has been a Fulbright Distinguished Scholar and a recipient of the Organizational Behavior Teaching Society's Outstanding Educator Award.

"Professor Cameron brings superlative academic credentials as an educator and researcher," said CWRU President Agnar Pytte, "along with significant accomplishments in executive education and international outreach and the highest academic and ethical standards. We feel confident that he will build on the Weatherhead School's many strengths and continue its movement to the forefront of management education."

Cameron succeeds Scott S. Cowen, who is leaving CWRU to become president of Tulane University. Cowen has been Weatherhead School dean since 1984.

In May the school unveiled a detailed model for its new, $40 million home designed by world-renowned architect Frank O. Gehry. The structure integrates classroom, offices and study spaces to increase interaction between students and faculty, and will be located across the street from the Weatherhead School's existing George S. Dively Management Center.

The two buildings will form the Peter B. Lewis campus named in honor of Lewis, who has pledged $24 million toward construction of the new building. Lewis is the president, chairman, and chief executive officer of Cleveland-based Progressive Corporation, the nation's fifth-largest auto insurer.
