CWRU remains tops in Ohio in U.S. News rankings

CLEVELAND -- Case Western Reserve University remains Ohio's top university, according to the latest rankings from U.S. News and World Report magazine. The magazine again ranks CWRU 34th among the country's top 228 national universities.

The magazine based its rankings on measures of academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, alumni giving, and financial resources.

At CWRU, 52 percent of undergraduate classes have under 20 students, only 14 percent of classes enroll 50 or more students, the student-faculty ratio is 8:1, 98 percent of faculty are full-time, and the freshman retention rate is 90 percent, the magazine reports.

CWRU also is listed the best value in Ohio, ranking 13th nationally. Some 60 percent of CWRU undergraduates receive need-based aid. The Best Values ranking "measures value by relating a school's quality ranking with the net cost to a student who receives the average level of financial aid," according to the magazine.

CWRU is the largest private research university in Ohio. Last year it enrolled 9,800 students from every state and 100 countries.
