CWRU again tops in Ohio in U.S. News rankings

Case Western Reserve University is Ohio's top school, according to new rankings from U.S. News and World Report magazine. The magazine ranks CWRU as 34th among 228 national universities, and its "best values" ranking cites CWRU as 30th. Rankings are from its 12th annual "best colleges" guide, published in the August 24 issue.

CWRU is the only Ohio university in the top 50 national universities in either the "best colleges" or "best values" rankings.

The "best colleges" rankings measures academic reputation, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, alumni giving, and financial resources. At CWRU, 50 percent of classes have fewer than 20 students, the student-faculty ratio is 8:1, and 66 percent of freshmen are in the top 10 percent of their high school graduating class.

The "best values" ranking "measures value by relating a school's quality ranking with the net cost to a student who receives the average level of financial aid," according to the magazine. Some 51 percent of CWRU undergraduates receive need-based grants.

CWRU is the largest private research university in Ohio and enrolls students from every state and more than 85 countries.
