African experts to discuss globalization during Grazella Shepherd Lecture Day

CLEVELAND -- The Association for Continuing Education at Case Western Reserve University will take an in-depth look at globalization during its annual Grazella Shepherd Lecture Day. The event -- "Globalization: Reshaping our World" -- will start at 9:30 a.m. Monday, October 16 at the Cleveland Play House Club, 8500 Carnegie Avenue. Registration is required by October 9.

Discussing trends and what impact globalization may have locally and nationally will be Tukumbi Lumumba-Kasongo, the Herbert J. Charles and Florence Charles Professor of Political Science at Wells College, and Scott Taylor, assistant professor in Georgetown University's School of Foreign Service. Eileen Doherty, CWRU assistant professor of political science, will moderate the talks.

"These individuals are well-qualified to provide some insights into the effect of the new international system on the economies of governments and the processes that are moving to reshape the world of today and tomorrow," says Billie Smith, lecture day chair and ACE vice president.

Lumumba-Kasongo is an international scholar of African politics. He is the author or editor of the books Dynamics and Policy Implications of the Global Reforms at the End of the Second Millennium: A Comparative Perspective and The Political Remapping of Africa: Transnational Ideology and the Redefinition of Africa in World Politics.

Lumumba-Kasongo has taught at Cornell University, the Universite de Cocody d'Ivoire, Vassar College, Bard College, and Wellesley College.

Scott Taylor, formerly on the faculty at Smith College, has also written extensively about the African experience in world politics and development. He also has served as a consultant and lecturer at African Governance Program at the Carter Center at Emory University in Atlanta.

Registration is $19.95 for ACE members or $30.95 for others. For more information, call 216-368-2090.
