Intergenerational conference is October 13

CLEVELAND -- An intergenerational conference to be held next month will feature presentations by CWRU faculty and staff. The event, "Ageless Wisdom: Best Practices in Intergenerational Learning," runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 13 at the Fairhill Center, 12200 Fairhill Road.

Kathy Kwiatkowski, assistant director of the Center for Science and Mathematics Education in CWRU's College of Arts and Sciences, will give a presentation on "Using the JASON Project for Intergenerational Middle School Programs."

The JASON Project's year-long, online curriculum -- with classroom activities and projects -- culminates with a nationwide broadcast event. In its 12th year this year, the program will follow the theme "Hawaii, A Living Laboratory." Broadcasts on campus are scheduled for January 29 through February 9.

Peter Whitehouse, professor of neurology and director of the department's Integrative Studies Program, will oversee one of the conference's wrap-up sessions through his presentation on "Observations and Applications."

An afternoon breakout session will feature a presentation by Cathy Whitehouse on the Intergenerational School, which opened this fall. She is principal teacher at the school, which the Whitehouses helped establish.

The conference fee is $65, which includes meals, materials, and continuing education units. Register by October 6 with Pamela Fioritto at 421-1350 ext. 129 or pf@fairhillcenter.org.
