CWRU sponsors City Club radio broadcasts nationwide

CLEVELAND -- Case Western Reserve University, Ohio's leading private research university, has teamed up with one of the nation's oldest and most popular venues for current affairs discussions to bring timely, and sometimes controversial, conversations to the nation's radio airwaves each week.

CWRU will now sponsor the nationwide radio broadcasts of the weekly City Club Forum, which the City Club of Cleveland hosts each Friday. Locally, the broadcast airs live from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on WCLV-95.5 FM. The City Club's Friday Forums are broadcast on WVIZ at 10 a.m. Sundays, and over most Cablevision systems at additional times throughout the week.

Since 1980, the City Club has distributed the forum programs nationally via satellite to a network that now includes more than 160 radio outlets in 19 states, from Alaska to Florida. The national audience for the City Club forum is 440,000 listeners each week, or more than 20 million listeners annually.

"This new partnership is a powerful opportunity to join ranks with this prestigious forum and to gain wide exposure for the University among a large, nationwide radio audience," said CWRU President David Auston. "It's a real pleasure to enter into a formal alliance with the City Club, which continues to feature prominent thinkers and leaders in its current-affairs programming."

"The support of Case Western Reserve University will help the City Club to continue to reach a broad audience across the country," said City Club Executive Director Jim Foster. "We are grateful to the University for its civic vision."

Founded in 1912 and dubbed "a citadel of free speech," the City Club has invited nationally and internationally recognized speakers to address its Friday Forum sessions on significant current topics. A 30-minute question-and-answer session follows each presentation.
