About the Office of Government Relations
Case Western Reserve University's Office of Government
Relations serves as the University's point of contact
for interaction with state and federal public officials; tracks,
monitors, and responds to state and federal legislation and
policy that influence the University's ability to conduct
its work; and, coordinates University advocacy efforts focused
on state and federal relations. The Office is responsible for
maintaining state and federal lobbying records and filing required
lobbying activity reports to state and federal government; serves
as the point of contact for voter registration on campus, and
is a resource to the campus for protocol and procedures related
to interactions with public officials.
In keeping with the University's approach in a variety
of matters, the Office frequently works in partnership with
other universities or related organizations on a range of legislative,
policy, and advocacy issues when appropriate.
David A. Bell
Vice President for Government and Community Relations
David Bell has joined Case Western Reserve University as Vice President for Government and Community Relations. Prior to joining the University, Mr. Bell served as General Counsel for Arizona State University Foundation in Tempe, Arizona. He is a 1990 graduate of Case Western Reserve University School of Law. After graduation, he clerked for the Hon. Alice M. Batchelder on the U. S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit and practiced law with two Ohio firms. Mr. Bell also taught at the University as an adjunct professor of law from 1993-95 and served as Associate General Counsel from 2003-06. He is married to Meg Bell, and they have three children – Caitlin (NYU Law School '10), Sarah (Wesleyan University '09), and Benjamin (Shaker Heights HS '09).
Adrienne L. Dziak
Associate Vice President for Government and Community Relations
Adrienne Dziak was named Associate Vice President of Government
and Community Relations in December 2006. Ms. Dziak previously
held the position of director of government relations at Case
Western Reserve University from October, 1998 to December 2006.
Prior to this appointment she served for eight years as associate
director at the Northeast Ohio Council on Higher Education,
a consortium of 22 public and private, two-year and four-year
institutions of higher education. Ms. Dziak also worked in various
administrative capacities for Cleveland State University and
Capital University-Cleveland Center before joining the Council
on Higher Education in 1991.
The variety of institutional settings in which she has worked
have contributed to her strong understanding of the system of
higher education in the United States, and the strengths of
the many types of colleges and universities that contribute
to it. In her current position at Case she is becoming a legislation
and policy devotee.
Mrs. Dziak earned a B. S. in Journalism from Ohio University
and a master's degree in higher education administration
and adult learning & development from Cleveland State University.
