Visiting Student Information

Summer 2007

 

Thank you for your interest in Case Western Reserve University. The following information will be helpful as you prepare for study at Case.

A schedule of classes for the upcoming summer semester is available on the Registrar's web site and it is updated daily. We have four summer sessions. Summer sessions run

  • Summer I (8 weeks) June 4 - July 30, 2007
  • Summer II (5 weeks) June 4 - July 6, 2007
  • Summer III (6 weeks) June 18 - July 30
  • Summer IV (4 weeks) July 9 - August 3, 2007

How do I find what classes are offered during the summer?

From the Registrar's home page, select Schedule of Classes. To view courses offered this summer:

  1. Select "Summer 2007" from the drop down menu "Term."
  2. Enter the four letter subject code of the discipline you want to study. This is normally the first four letters of the subject, i.e. BIOL for Biology. Click on the link, "By Subject," for a complete list of Subject Codes.
  3. Once the list of courses appears, click on the CRN, the blue five-digit number to the left of the course title, for the a description of the course.
I have found a class that I want to take. What is my next step?

In order to take classes as Case as a visiting student, you must complete the Visiting Student Application Form. The form is a fill-in pdf form. Complete the form and return it to the Office of Undergraduate Studies (either by regular mail: 10900 Euclid Ave, Sears 357, Cleveland, OH 44106 or email: ugstudies@case.edu). Once the form has been completed and approved, you will be receive a confirmation email or letter. The approval process will happen in late March or the beginning of April).

When can I register for a summer course?

The first day to register for summer classes is April 23. To see the last days to add or drop a summer course, you should consult the Summer Registration Site. The dates are different depending on which summer session you are enrolled. Please note that you do not have to be here on April 23 to register. Students can register for a class up through the add/drop period of the session they are attending.

How do I register for class?

You can register in one of two ways. You can register online using SOLAR (Student On-Line Academic Registration) or in person at the registrar's office. In order to use SOLAR, you will need to obtain a PIN (Personal Identification Number) from the Office of Undergraduate Studies. Your PIN will only be available to you after you have completed the Visiting Student Application and have received your acceptance email.

You can also register in person at the registrar's office. In order to do that, you must make an appointment to meet with a dean in the Office of Undergraduate Studies to obtain a signature on the registration form.

When do I have to pay my summer tuition?

If you register using SOLAR, you do not have to pay when you register. Student Accounts Receivable will send you an invoice via email. The due dates for payment for summer tuition have not been set yet. Check back soon!

Is housing available on campus during the summer?

Yes. Housing is available on campus for students taking classes during the summer. Visit the summer housing web site to obtain an application. You can also contact the Office of Housing, Residence Life & Greek Life for more information at 216-368-3780 or email them at housing@case.edu

Is parking available for students during the summer?

Yes. Parking is available for students during the summer. You should contact the Parking Office to see what parking lots are available and the cost for a parking permit. You can also contact the Parking office for more information at 216-368-2273 or email them at parking@case.edu.

Will I be able to get a Case ID card?

Yes. You will get a Case student ID card. It is important to get a Case ID cards as you will need it to access many buildings after hours, check items out of the library, access the athletic and recreational facilities in Veale Center and to show that you are affiliated with the university.

Will I get a Case email account?

Yes. You will get a Case email account. It will be very important that you activate your email account. You will receive your tuition invoice only via email, you will be able to access many of the services provided through the IT department. In addition, many professors communicate with students via email, so it is important to activate your Case email account in order to succeed in your class!
