DR. JENNIE S. HWANG AWARD

Purpose

The Dr. Jennie S. Hwang Award was created through the generosity of Dr. Jennie Hwang, a recipient of the 2000 YWCA Woman of Achievement Award, as scientist, engineer, author, corporate executive and entrepreneur who is internationally distinguished in both business and technology arenas. Among her many awards and honors, she is the first and only woman from Ohio to be elevated to the National Academy of Engineering and the only person from Ohio inducted into the Women in Technology International Hall of Fame.

The Award recognizes an outstanding sophomore or junior female student who in majoring in a science, engineering or technology-related discipline, including life-sciences. Nominees for the Award must be full-time students in good standing with the university. The Award selection is based upon the following:

  1. Overall academic performance and academic performance in one of the designated majors;
  2. Leadership experiences and on-campus activities; and
  3. Off-campus volunteer and community service

The University is permitted to nominate no more than three students for this award, so there is a PRELIMINARY SCREENING. For a preliminary screening, please submit to Dean Lynmarie Hamel by the end of December a summary of:

  1. Academic accomplishments, honors and awards (include, if applicable, honors thesis, or paper given, research completed, scholarships, competitive summer programs, and recognition won)
  2. Extracurricular/community activities and leadership both on and off-campus.
