Purpose
The purpose of the Experiential Learning Fellowships is to encourage and support student undergraduate student projects in the humanities, arts and social sciences for the purpose of providing opportunities for experiential learning to students seeking a major or minor in these disciplines.
Application Procedure
- Complete and sign an Experiential Learning Fellowship application form, attach it to a 500 word description of the proposal project and submit both electronically.
- Identify a faculty sponsor. The faculty sponsor must have an appointment in one of the arts, humanities, social sciences departments or interdisciplinary studies programs. The faculty sponsor must complete a Faculty Sponsor Form and submit it electronically
- Materials are submitted to Marcia Camino
Eligibility
- Students may apply for an Experiential Learning Fellowship beginning in the spring semester of their first year and every year thereafter;
- Funded programs must be completed prior to graduation;
- Recipients are required to report on their completed projects and fellowship experiences at a university-wide forum for be scheduled by the dean’s office.
- Students who have declared their intent of pursuing a major or minor in programs offered by any of the following academic departments.
- Anthropology
- Arty History and Art
- Classics
- Communications Sciences
- English
- Economics
- History
- Modern Languages and Literature
- Music
- Philosophy
- Political Science
- Psychology
- Religion
- Sociology
- Theater and Dance
- Students who have declared their intent of pursuing a major or minor in any of the interdisciplinary studies programs in which faculty from the arts and humanities or social sciences departments listed above participate as program faculty.
Selection Procedure
- A selection committee is convened once each semester by the associate deans in the College of Arts and Sciences in charge of administering the program. The Committee consists of the associate deans and one faculty member each from an academic department in the arts, the humanities, and the social sciences.
- Committee members read all of the proposals and then convene to discuss and evaluate each proposal based on the Review Criteria. The criteria includes
- a completed application;
- the educational value of the proposal;
- the strength of the sponsor’s letter; and
- the adequacy of the budget and budget justification
- Students will be notified of the committee’s decision.
Value of the Award
The College of Arts and Sciences intends to make approximately five awards each semester with and average award size of $5000. The actual number of awards will depend upon the number of applications.
