Getting Started and Advice to Students
This section will help you think about research and creative endeavors (UR-CE), why you might want to get involved, and some issues for you to consider. Students tell us a number of reasons that influence their decision to find an UR-CE opportunity. Many want to learn more about what it is like to be a researcher while some want to know if going to graduate school is a real interest. Some students want more “hands-on” experience; while others want to work more closely with faculty and graduate students. All these reasons and more are valid for seeking an UR-CE opportunity.
Some of the issues for you to think about include the time you have available for UR-CE, some qualities faculty look for in students interested in UR-CE, and compensation for UR-CE activities. You also can find in this section some comments of our students and faculty who have been involved in UR-CE experiences. Their comments may give you additional considerations.
The important thing for now is that you are getting started. Explore this site. If you are looking for summer opportunities, remember that application deadlines begin in January, so get started.
