Research Opportunities - On Campus

There are several ways to find an on-campus research position. In short, faculty want you to contact them about possible openings. They want you to take the initiative to learn what their research areas are, in what projects they are involved, and then for you to connect your interest with their work when you contact them. The typical way of contacting them is via email, but before/after class and during office hours is also appropriate. Below are a few suggestions about how to go about finding a position at Case.

  1. Review the faculty research profiles on the web (and with links below), and contact faculty who are working in areas where you have interest. Contact several faculty individually about your wanting to work with them. As noted in the “Getting Started” section, it is advisable to offer to volunteer about 6-8 hours per week during a semester to get on board a research team. Often these positions become summer paid positions. Also remember, you can take research for class credit. The links below connect you to faculty research profiles.
  2. Occasionally, faculty will post a specific opening on the SOURCE site. However, this is not the usual means.
  3. Talk to your friends. Many students participate in research on campus every year. They can offer great advice based on their experience about finding a campus research position.
  4. Learn what faculty are involved in during classes, and speak with faculty about becoming involved.
  5. Some departments have undergraduate research coordinators.
  6. Contact Sheila Pedigo in the SOURCE office for an appointment for individual guidance.
