A message from President Kaler and Provost Vinson: Observing—and celebrating—Juneteenth

To Our Case Western Reserve University Community,

On Monday, our campus will be closed to observe and, importantly, to celebrate the Juneteenth holiday.

We celebrate that on June 19, 1865, at long last, all enslaved Black people in our country became free Americans. We celebrate the basic human right to freedom and the hope in new beginnings. And as we celebrate, we are reminded that we must all continue to do and to be better.

As individuals and together, we must take action and speak out so that “liberty and justice for all” is the reality and the shared experience of every single person in this country.
