The Inamori Center is providing financial support to three GELS members to attend the United States Air Force Academy National Character and Leadership Symposium, Guardians of Trust: Leaders in the Modern Era. This premier national symposium explores various dimensions of character and leadership and brings together distinguished scholars, armed forces leaders, corporate presidents and others. The attending GELS student is David Stute.
January 24-27, 2010
Sponsorship from the Inamori Center will provide four GELS members the opportunity to attend the USNA National Leadership Conference, Leadership Under Stress: Transforming Crises into Opportunities, at the US Naval Academy in Maryland. Since 2002, the conference has been sponsored by the Hart Foundation and the USNA Class of 1938 to provide military and civilian undergraduate students of leadership the opportunity to interact with peers and exchange ideas, experiences, and methodologies on leadership; and gain valuable insights from business leaders, scholars, government officials and military flag and general officers. Attending GELS students include: Sean Hobson, Monica Schager, Susannah Selnick.

Sociology Major Colleen Hosler Heads to Russia to Give Christmas to Orphans
Colleen Hosler, a Case Western Reserve University second-year sociology major from Pittsburgh, is busy packing her suitcase with "hoodies" and candy. She will be a Santa bringing gifts to orphans in Dmitrov, Russia, during the Russian Orthodox Christmas.

GELS member Elizabeth Phillips is the Inamori Center’s first Research Fellow and is currently conducting research on ethical issues in emergency health care in the U.S., Costa Rica, Japan, and Europe.

GELS members were granted special access to the Inamori Center’s distinguished guest speakers, and several participated in private roundtable discussions with visiting scholars and experts on ethical leadership.

GELS members had the opportunity to personally meet the 2009 Inamori Ethics Prize winner, The Honorable Mary Robinson, during a private student reception.
Summer 2009
GELS member Lauren Geisser, with funding support from the Inamori Center, spent last summer serving as an intern at a foundation in Washington, D.C., working on a global initiative to stop the mistreatment of women worldwide and encourage international compliance with the CEDAW (Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women).
March 7-17, 2009
GELS members, with funding support from the Inamori Center, traveled to El Salvador to serve as official election observers for that country’s first significant, contested Presidential election in 17 years.
