Academic Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES)

Jourdan Bowe
Jourdan Bowe, a biology major
from Fisk, has worked as an ACES
summer fellow at Case.

With generous support from the National Science Foundation, the Academic Careers in Engineering and Science (ACES) program at Case Western Reserve University seeks to contribute to the development of a national science and engineering workforce that includes the full participation of women at all levels of faculty and academic leadedership.

In support of this mission, ACES hosts the Summer Undergraduate Research Program for Minorities during which students spend ten weeks working in a research laboratory or research program under the direction of a Case faculty member. They also attend lectures by science and engineering faculty and give poster presentations at the end of the program. The Summer Undergraduate Research Program includes a stipend, plus support for housing, meals, travel, and supplies.

In one year, seven students conducted research at Case including five students came from Fisk University: Ami Barry, Kiedra Kinkaide, Shayla Merry, Elizabeth Stewart, and April Walls. All of the students presented their research in a public poster session.
