Student Exchanges

Ami Barry
Ami Barry has been the first
student to participate in the
Case-Fisk student exchange

As a 21-year-old, third-year student from Fisk University in Nashville, Tenn., Ami Barry recently spent a semester "abroad"—at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio.

Through their distinctive partnership, Case and Fisk are redefining student and faculty exchange programs.

Barry, who is studying chemistry and mathematics at Fisk, has been the first to participate as an exchange student through the universities' unique collaboration.

Though only several hundred miles apart, Case and Fisk offer very different multicultural perspectives.

"It is a good way to learn about different people within your own country," Barry said about the exchange program between Case and Fisk. "You may meet someone from a place that you may want to visit. There are lots of opportunities to do things like that in the States. You don't have to leave the country to experience a different culture or meet different people.

"At least if you are homesick," Barry added, "you can come home a lot easier that if you were abroad."
