WISER Professional Mentoring Program

Are you a professional woman with a career in engineering, science, technology or medicine?

We are looking for women who would be interested in sharing their time and experiences with a WISER student in a mentoring relationship. Mentor pairs meet several times throughout the semester, plus email and phone calls as necessary.

WISER peer Mentoring Program

The WISER Peer Mentoring Program pairs first or second year WISER students with WISER upperclass or graduate student in a similar major or field of study. Mentors/mentees will get to know a student with similar interests and offer support or learn from their experience. It is a great way to ease the transition to college, help solidfy future career and educational goals, and make new friends.

Applications are open at the beginning of the summer semester for the class starting in the fall. Matches are made and partners notified by mid-September. After a kick-off dinner event for the mentoring pairs, students will attend a meeting with the Associate Director and their mentor/mentee in October to set goals. Mentors will also attend a training and information session during this time.

Mentoring pairs typically meet once per month during the academic year to get advice, support, discuss classes, majors, career paths, or go to events together. Contact via email, Facebook and phone is encouraged. There will be a social 'peer mentor partners' event each semester, with a wrap-up celebration at the end of spring semester.

The WISER Peer Mentoring Program has reached its capacity to accept first year students (mentees) for 2009-2010. Check back in April for information about the WISER Mentoring Programs for 2010-2011.
