WOMEN IN SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING ROUNDTABLE (WISER)
WISER's mission is to promote academic excellence of women pursuing STEM related careers at Case Western Reserve University.
WISER is open to all women CWRU students (undergraduate, graduate and professional) with a major or planning a career in science, technology, engineering, medicine or math.
New members and guests are always welcome at all WISER events, as are all interested CWRU faculty and staff. WISER sponsors a variety of programs and events, including peer and professional mentoring, monthly meetings, social outings, field trips and opportunities for professional and educational enrichment.
Professional and Peer mentoring are key elements of WISER program. Professional Mentor pairs meet several times throughout the semester, and keep in contact through email and phone calls as necessary.
The Peer Mentoring Program pairs first or second year WISER students with WISER upperclass or graduate student in a
similar major or field of study.
WISER has partnered with Citizens Leadership Academy (CLA) and Monticello Middle School for a grades 6-8 after-school Girls' Science and Engineering Club.'
Seva, meaning 'service' in Sanskrit, is intended to promote the goals and vision of WISER through various initiatives for underprivileged girls in Bangalore.
Monthly scheduled activities are designed to stimulate discussion and thought about some of the issues related to being a woman in science, to help build skills for success in the university and beyond, and to build a community of women in the sciences and engineering at CWRU.
WISER students are able to gather and meet in their own WISER room. Centrally located on campus, the room is set up for conversation, napping, and working. The lounge also has computers and a printer available.
