NORD Grants

NORD GRANTS INFORMATION

  1. Duration of awards: The duration of the grants will be for one-year, with the possibility of an extension.
  2. Deadlines: There will be no deadlines for proposals, so faculty can submit proposals as the need arises, but for administrative convenience, awards will be made starting on January 1 and July 1 of each year.
  3. Award limits: The total amount available for all the grants in any given year will be in the range of $50,000.00. There will be no lower or upper limits to the individual awards, subject to the above overall limit. The degree of detail and level of justification provided should be commensurate with the size of the award requested.
  4. Application process: Requests for awards should be in the form of a letter at most two pages long, plus a detailed budget including a descriptive justification. The letter should be co-signed by the department chair (or an Associate Dean in those schools that do not have a department structure). More ambitious projects may be required to provide more details.
  5. Eligibility: Faculty who are eligible for awards are those who are likely to have an expectation of a reasonably long-term relationship with the university. This includes tenure-line faculty, instructors, and lecturers. Visiting faculty, clinical faculty, SAGES Fellows, and graduate students will not be eligible except in exceptional cases where the award's benefits are likely to persist even after the awardee has left.
  6. Guidelines for awards: While the awards will be granted only for those activities that further the teaching mission of UCITE and the university, this requirement will be interpreted broadly rather than narrowly, to encompass such things as funding the modest needs of a specific course, to attend a conference on teaching, to invite speakers, for seed money to obtain external funds, or for ambitious large-scale projects. Funding will not normally be provided for summer salary or teaching release time. Whatever the project, the proposal should include a brief rationale that explains the expected impact on the education of students, how outcomes (if appropriate and relevant) will be assessed, and the necessity for using this particular source for the funds if the award is for something that normally should be funded by the department or school.
  7. Final Report: Within two months after the award period ends, the proposer will be expected to file a brief report on what the project accomplished and how the money was spent.
