December 2000 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee provided information at the Benefits Fair through a tri-fold display, a descriptive brochure, reminder card for the JASON Project broadcast February 3. The committee continues to work on the annual SAC Insert to be distributed after the beginning of the New Year. An upcoming project will be to organize and track the use of the representative e-mail lists. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, December 12 at 12 noon in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee is collected items for Miracle Village during the Benefits Fair (November 27 and 28). The committee is planning another bake sale to raise money for a local charity. Community Service Committee will meet Thursday, January 18, at 12 noon in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center.

Elections Report:

The general election calendar has been updated to reflect the constitutional changes allowing the committee to begin the Election process earlier this year. The website has been updated with the year end report and a comparison of past elections. Elected representatives received copies of their constituency list at the 7-Dec Council meeting. All are welcome to bring a main dish or a dessert to the Elections Committee holiday luncheon Tuesday, December 12, at 1:00 p.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

Two subcommittees continue to research and discuss retirement plans and leave donation programs. Maternity and Adoption Leaves will be added to the agenda for the next meeting. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, December 18, at 12:00 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee is currently working on interim appointments. The Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, December 20, at 10:30 a.m. in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee will begin work on the nomination form for the 2001 President's Award for Distinguished Service. Staff Recognition Committee will meet Thursday, December 19, at 11:45 a.m. in Tomlinson Food Court.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The committee continues its efforts to identify affordable, relevant and up-to-date audio and video media to have on reserve in the Kelvin-Smith library for faculty and staff use. The list of available resources is provided on the Human Resources web site. In addition, for the Training and Development committee, Designed a flyer advertising the Employee Resource Center, accompanied by a list of the available resources for the Benefits Fair. Other projects include video-on-wheels (mobile) training and querying sister universities to get a feel for what kinds of training vehicles they have found to be useful to their faculty and staff. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, December 13 and Friday, December 15, at 12 noon in 209 Crawford Hall.
