October 2000 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee is planning the annual SAC insert to be published in Campus News in early fall. We are coordinating and distributing e-mail lists of staff constituents for each SAC representative. We will assist representatives in preparing SAC information and reports to distribute through these lists. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, October 10, at 12 noon in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee is planning upcoming events, one of which will be a holiday food drive held during the Benefits Fair (November 27 and 28). Community Service Committee will meet Thursday, October 19, at 12 noon in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center.

Elections Report:

The committee congratulates everyone who participated in the 2000 general election to be nominated is an honor. The election results have been posted on the web; see who was elected from Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Management. The committee will analyze the administration of this past election process that includes the orientation luncheon and will plan the new election calendar for the upcoming year. Elections Committee will meet Tuesday, October 10, at 3:00 p.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

Two subcommittees continue to research and discuss retirement plans and leave donation programs. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, October 16, at 10:30 a.m. in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee is currently working on interim appointments. The Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, October 18, at 10:30 a.m. in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee will begin work on the nomination form for the 2001 President's Award for Distinguished Service. Staff Recognition Committee will meet Thursday, October 11, at 12:00 noon in 720 Crawford Hall.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The committee continues its efforts to identify affordable, relevant and up-to-date audio and video media to have on reserve in the Kelvin Smith library for faculty and staff use. The list of available resources is provided on the Human Resources web site. Other projects include video-on-wheels (mobile) training and querying sister universities to get a feel for what kinds of training vehicles they have found to be useful to their faculty and staff. In partnership with Human Resources, the committee is sponsoring Staff Development Sessions on the topic of the employee assistance program. Detailed information is listed on the SAC web site. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, October 18, at 12 noon in 1 Adelbert Hall.
