August 2003 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee assisted the Elections Committee in promoting and explaining SAC representative voting procedures. Most representatives have been notified of updates in their constituent lists. Council passed an addition to the Communication Guide (8-7-03). Communications Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday, August 12, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee is preparing for Community Service Day on September 17, 2003. A kick off luncheon with President Hundert will take place at 11:30 a.m. Community Service Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday, August 12, in Charlie's Place in Thwing Center.

Elections Report:

The committee will be counting votes for the Council general election in Academic Administration, Applied Social Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing, and University Administration. The ad hoc Constitution Committee proposed a change in apportionment data, as well as, a method to determine a tie within a management area during a general election. Elections Committee will meet to at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19, in 720 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

The committee would like to address issues regarding widespread concerns with the Advance-PCS prescription plan. The tuition sharing subcommittee presented a resolution to improve the Tuition Benefits Program at CWRU at the next SAC meeting. The retiree health subcommittee presented its findings to Vice President Tony Kinslow. Resolution to Improve the Tuition Benefits Program at CWRU was passed by Council (8-7-03). Fringe Benefits Committee will meet at noon on Monday, August 18, in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee will consider timely evaluations, animal policy, handicap access, and how best to handle reorganization that leads to job loss or added responsibilities. Staff Policy Committee will meet at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

Congratulations to the recipients of the President's Award for Distinguished Service: Madelyn Miller (development services), John Tizzano (plant services), and Dorothy Pijan (Thwing Center), who were publicly recognized by President Hundert at the Service Awards Luncheon on June 12. Feedback on the Party on the Quad "Backyard Barbecue" is being collected to measure its success with participants. Staff Recognition will meet at noon on Tuesday, August 19, in 1 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Training and Development Report:

In partnership with the SAC Fringe Benefit Committee, the committee submitted resolutions to make CWRU the best learning environment for faculty, staff and students. A variety of videos, CD's and DVD's have recently been purchased by Human Resources. These resources will be available for staff use from the Kelvin Smith Library. Resolution to Empower CWRU Staff in Their Pursuit of Life-Long Learning was passed by Council (8-7-03). Staff Training and Development Committee will meet at noon on Wednesday, August 20, in 1 Adelbert Hall.
