August 2001 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The Committee has developed an information and welcome sheet for new employees that describes SAC and its various committees. Distribution of the flyer began on June 25. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, August 14, at 12 noon in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The Committee will be holding a fund-raising basket auction in conjunction with this year's Benefits Fair in November. CWRU Departments will be invited to donate a "theme" basket for the auction. This fall, the Committee will promote participation in the Breast Cancer Run/Walk. Details on these events to follow in subsequent newsletters/announcements. The Committee is seeking a new Chair or Co-Chairs. Interested individuals should contact Terri Geiger (tam, x2660) or Christy Kehoe (cxk15, x5517). Service Committee will meet Thursday, August 16, at 12 noon in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center.

Elections Report:

Staff Advisory Council elections continue through August 17 in academic administration, applied social sciences, dentistry, nursing, and University administration. The candidates collected art supplies and $78 for Ronald MacDonald House of Cleveland. Elections Committee will meet Tuesday, August 14, at 3:00 p.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

The Committee is discussing Plan B retirement, health insurance for retirees, adoption leave, and availability of birth control pills. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, August 20, at 12:00 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

Committee is comparing other university ombudsman programs. Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, August 2, at 10:30 a.m. in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The Party on the Quad was held Friday, July 27. The theme was centered on CWRU-175 years. Thanks to all those who volunteered their service for the party. Staff Recognition will meet Tuesday, August 21, at 12 noon in 306 White Building.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The Committee hosted a Cleveland Saves workshop Wednesday, August 1, entitled, "Building wealth is easier than you think" presented by Jay Seaton, CCO of Consumer Credit Counseling Service. For more information about Cleveland Saves or becoming a Cleveland Saver, call the Cleveland Saves Moneyline, (216) 781-8090. In order to raise awareness, the Employee Resources (purchased by HR and house in the Kelvin Smith Library) will be displayed at the Benefits Fair in November. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, August 8, at 12 noon in 1 Adelbert Hall.
