June 2003 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee received e-mail addresses for new employees and will be sending the addresses out to Council representatives to update their constituent lists. An addendum to the SAC Communications guidelines for the use of constituent e-mail lists was adopted at the June business meeting. Communications Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday, June 10, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee met with Mary F Bethune Elementary School and will be discussing ways to form a partnership. Community Service Committee will meet at noon on Thursday, June 10, in Tomlinson Food Court.

Elections Report:

The committee has called for nominations for the Council general election in Academic Administration, Applied Social Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing, and University Administration. The schedule for the voting booth has been set and will begin July 25 at the Party on the Quad and will continue through August 8. Congratulations to Jeanne Madison who has been elected as the new SAC Vice Chair. Chair Emerson is working on the ad hoc Constitution Committee to the distribution of the libraries in the apportionment data and include a method to determine a tie within a management area during a general election. Elections Committee will meet to at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, in 720 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

The committee continues to look at the learning environment of the University, raising awareness of the importance of Plan C participation and reviewing retiree health costs. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet at noon on Monday, June 16, in 353 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee is reviewing work duty changes as a result of reorganizations and will meet with Kurt Fretthold, Director of Administrative Service in the School of Medicine at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee is thanks all the nominators for the President's Award for Distinguished Service. The three recipients will be honored at the Staff Service Award luncheon hosted by Human Resources on June 12. The committee is assisting Human Resources in planning Party on the Quad “Backyard Barbecue,” which is scheduled for Friday, July 25. Staff Recognition will meet at noon on Tuesday, June 17, in 1 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Training and Development Report:

In partnership with the SAC Fringe Benefit Committee, the committee will distribute a survey on creating the best learning environment to employees. Beginning April 22, Committee and other Council members are addressing new employees during orientation each week as an enhancement to the Employee Resource Partnering Program. Video on Wheels will continue next fiscal year showing the best of the collection. Staff Training and Development Committee will meet at noon on Wednesday, June 18, in 1 Adelbert Hall.
