June 2002 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee is working with the ad hoc SAC Visibility Committee to promote the June 12 SAC Visibility Reception (4-6pm BRB), coordinating an effort with all committees to compile and present a poster display (describing the work of each committee) at the Reception. A slide presentation describing SAC, its mission, committees and upcoming events was developed with Elections for display at the Reception. We are continuing to analyze the discrepancies in the elections and communications constituent databases and will present our findings to Administrative Information Services to work with them on a consolidation effort. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, June 11, at 12 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee collected a total of $1,604.34 (half was matched by the President's office) for the Perry Children's Memorial Trust Fund. The committee has agreed to help the CWRU National Youth Sports Program (six-week athletic and academic day camp for over 400 economically disadvantaged Cleveland youth) decorate for the international festival "One Planet, One People." Community Service Committee will meet Tuesday, June 11, at 12 noon in Tomlinson Food Court.

Elections Report:

The committee is pleased to announce and congratulate the newly elected Vice Chair for 2002, Joanne DiCarlo and Secretary, Jennifer Bryne. The committee has mailed out nominations for School of Engineering, College of Arts and Sciences, School of Law, School of Medicine and Weatherhead School of Management. The nominations close as of June 10. If interested see our website listed below. Elections Committee will meet Tuesday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

The committee brought forward three resolutions in support of parents' leave, adoption leave, and financial assistance to help defray adoption costs. The Council passed all three. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, June 17, at 12 noon in Adelbert Hall, Room 1.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee presented to the Council a draft resolution from Human Resources entitled, "Animals on Campus," which is potential University policy meant to uphold the state and local laws concerning the keeping of animals on campus. Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, July 31, at 10:30 a.m. in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee would like to congratulate the President Award recipients for 2002: Daniel (Tex) Kelly (printing services), G. Dean Patterson, Jr. (student affairs) and Gail Palombia Shipley (human resources). The committee is busy planning "That '70s Party on the Quad" scheduled for Friday, July 26. The committee is soliciting volunteers to put together an air band and perform their favorite '70s song during "That '70s Party." Air band competition rules are on the SAC web site and registration is due July 12. The Staff Recognition Committee will meet Tuesday, June 18, at 12 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The Staff Training and Development Committee has begun a pilot Employee Resource Partnering Program in April to serve as an information channel for new employees as they make the transition to the campus community. The next Video on Wheels is "A Tale of O: On Being Different," will be shown at 12 noon on Thursday, June 13. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, June 12, at 12 noon in 1 Adelbert Hall.
