SAC has forged a partnership with University Circle Incorporated (UCI) for Parade the Circle Celebration. Eleven University staff members have volunteered to join the events staff in set up and retail sales for the 11 a.m. to 4 a.m. celebration on Saturday, June 10, 2000. The event is free and open to the public. Further information is available from UCI at www.universitycircle.org.
Begin to think about how you can join this University project: the JASON project's twelfth annual expedition-JASON XII: Hawaii, A Living Laboratory. CWRU is a primary interactive network site for this multidisciplinary science and technology program that engages middle school students in a year long virtual expedition with a team of researchers led by dr. Robert Ballard, widely known for his discovery of the wreckage of the titanic. Live telepresence broadcasts from the expedition site will be presented in Ford Auditorium from January 29 to February 9, 2001. SAC plans to sponsor the 2:30p.m. broadcast on Saturday, February 3. Communications Report:
SAC's 10th anniversary was Wednesday, May 24, and the University joined in celebrating this milestone in a weeklong series of activities. The committee now begins planning the annual SAC insert to be published in Campus News in early fall. The Communications Committee will meet Wednesday, June 14, at 3 p.m. in Adelbert Hall, Room 353.
Community Services Report:
On April 16 the committee presented an idea about adding a discretionary day to use specifically for community service, and is currently under review by President Auston. Approximately $500 was raised for a local shelter for battered women through the May 23 bake sale. Community Services Committee will meet Thursday, June 15, at 1 p.m. in Charlie's Place at Thwing Center.
Elections Report:
The committee is pleased to announce the new Council officers for 2000-01. William Hale from the University Counseling Service was elected vice-chair. Robin Kramer from the Controller's Office was elected secretary. The committee will be planning the SAC general election from Arts and Sciences, Engineering, Law, Medicine, and Management. Elections committee will meet Tuesday, June 13, at 2:30 p.m. in Crawford Hall, Room 604.
Fringe Benefits Report:
Two subcommittees are meeting on retirement programs and leave donation programs. The Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, June 19, at 4:00 p.m. in Adelbert Hall, Room 352.
Staff Policy Report:
The committee is currently working on interim appointments. The Personnel Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, June 21, at 10:30 a.m. in Adelbert Hall, Room 353.
Staff Recognition Report:
The committee reviewed 23 nominations and recommended three recipients for the President's Award for Distinguished Service. Betty Cernohorsky from Weatherhead's Professional Degree Programs Office, Susan Nickel-Schindewolf from Housing and Residence Life, and Jes Sellers from the University Counseling Service will be honored at the Service Award Luncheon on June 8th. Party on the Quad is scheduled for Friday, July 28, 2000 — please mark your calendars. Staff Recognition Committee will meet Wednesday, June 7, at noon in Adelbert Hall, Room 351.
Staff Training and Development Report:
The committee is reviewing videos to purchase for the Employee Resource Center at Kelvin Smith Library. The list of available resources is provided on the Human Resources internet site. The Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, June 14, at noon in Adelbert, Room 1.
