April 2005 Newsletter
Greetings from the Communications Committee of the Staff Advisory Council (SAC). You are listed on a Case Human Resources supervisory and managerial personnel database. As such, SAC would like to send you a bi-monthly e-mail newsletter to inform you of the issues and projects that are currently addressed by SAC and its committees. These topics are of general concern to the staff community at Case, and we appreciate your attention to them. The newsletter contains contact information for the various SAC committees, should you our your personnel be interested in more information. If you do not wish to receive future issues of this SAC newsletter, there is a contact e-mail at the bottom to request removal of your name from the distribution list. Please do not make this request as a reply to this message, since it is a managed list and your unsubscribe request may not be properly forwarded.
Most of the Council's work is done through committees where a variety of issues are addressed. Each committee reports their activities to the general Council when it meets six times a year. Below are summaries of the committees' reports. You are encouraged to forward this newsletter to your colleagues on campus. You do not have to be an elected member of SAC to serve on a committee. All committees would welcome any level of participation. If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact the Committee Chair listed on our web site at http://www.cwru.edu/president/sac/sac.html
Communications Report:
The committee last met on 1/11/2005. Since then, chair Carol Dietz has presented additional saccom email guidelines, developed by the committee, at the February 10th general SAC meeting. Additionally, the committee would like to thank Rick Kramer for the tremendous job he has done updating the SAC website, Paul Schneider for looking into using the university calendaring system to develop an online SAC Calendar, and Jason Weiner for volunteering to compile committee reports and edit the SAC electronic newsletter. Please join us at our next meeting Tuesday, May 10th, 2005, 12 – 1 p.m. in Adelbert 353. Chair: Carol Dietz (cpd@case.edu)
Community Services Report:
The committee reports that the A Taste of Case cookbook is progressing as planned. Approximately 100 unique recipes and 4 sponsors have helped to make this project a fund-raising success, with proceeds benefiting Joseph F. Landis and Mary Bethune elementary schools, both part of the CMSD. The cookbook will be on sale through May 4th at various locations around campus. Please join us at our next meeting Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 at 12 p.m. in Thomlinson. Co-Chairs: Shelli Snyder, Michelle Saafir (sac-communityservice@case.edu)
Elections Report:
The Elections committee has been preparing for the upcoming Vice-Chair elections. In March, the committee compiled and reviewed nominee bios in preparation for April’s General Council meeting. Ballots were mailed out to the Council on April 15th. Following the Vice-Chair Elections, the Elections Committee will be working on the next general election, to kick off at the Party on the Quad. The Elections Committee will meet again on Tuesday, May 10th 2005 in Adelbert 353 from 3 – 4 p.m. Chair: Aruno Johnson (Aruno.Johnson@case.edu)
Fringe Benefits Report:
At the 3/21/2005 meeting, the committee discussed the outcome of the meeting with the Faculty Senate Compensation Committee concerning Retiree Health Benefits. Depending on HR’s response to the Retiree Health Resolution put forth by the Council in the Fall 2004 semester, SAC Fringe Benefits would recommend that at the minimum, information would be very transparent to all seeking retiree related benefits information. Our benchmarking of sister schools has shown the extensive use of HR websites to communicate to this special class of individuals. Our recommendation would include website changes as well as communication about the use of current retirement vehicles to save for future retiree healthcare costs. The committee plans to continue to review and monitor this issue. Next meeting scheduled for Monday, May 16th, 12-1 p.m. in Adelbert 352. Co-Chairs: Kathryn Howard (Kathryn.howard@case.edu), Kathleen Blazar (Kcb2@case.edu), Denise Douglas (Denise.Douglas@case.edu)
Staff Policy Report:
The committee is currently reviewing the following issues: privacy policies on accessing and using data; acceptable use and guidelines and allowing access to retirees; access to email and library services. The Staff Policy Committee will meet again on Wednesday, May 25th in Adelbert 352 at 10 a.m. Co-Chairs: Paul Schneider (paul.Schneider@case.edu) and Charles Knox (cak2@case.edu)
Staff Recognition Report:

Plans for Party on the Quad will soon be underway. The next Staff Recognition meeting will be on Tuesday, May 10 from 12 – 1 p.m. in Adelbert Room 1.
