Communications Report:

The committee reminds staff of four opportunities to participate in an open forum with University Vice Presidents:

  • Monday, April 7 at noon in BRB 10W;
  • Monday, April 14, at noon in Thwing Spartan Room;
  • Wednesday, April 23, at 4 p.m. in Guilford House Parlor;
  • Tuesday, April 29 at 4 p.m. in 306 White Bldg.


  • An addendum to the SAC Communications guidelines for the use of constituent e-mail lists will be brought before Council for adoption. Communications Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday, April 8, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

    Community Services Report:

    Thank you for making the paper drive a success that benefits Mary Bethune and Joseph F. Landis—two Cleveland Municipal elementary schools just blocks from University Circle. During the two-day S.O.S. (Send One Suite) Drive the CWRU community was able to collect ~300 interview appropriate items to be used by the Dress For Success Organization in their efforts to assist unemployed women gain entry into the work market. Community Service Committee will meet at noon on Thursday, April 8, in Tomlinson Food Court.

    Elections Report:

    Officer elections will take place April 4-25. Good luck to both Jeanne Madison and Carmen Rodriguez as they run for Council vice chair. The management areas up for election this year are Academic Administration, Applied Social Sciences, Dentistry, Nursing, and University Administration. Elections Committee will meet to set dates for the general election on Tuesday, April 15, at 10:30 a.m. in 710 Crawford Hall.

    Fringe Benefits Report:

    The committee is pleased with the new Adoption Leave policy that came out of changes recommended by the Council last summer. The committee is working on raising awareness of the importance of Plan C participation. The committee is reviewing retiree health costs and tuition sharing among universities. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet at noon on Monday, April 21, in 352 Adelbert Hall.

    Staff Policy Report:

    The committee is currently discussing policies surrounding timely evaluations, University designated holidays, and raises for interim and temporary assignments. We have also continued to discuss the HR-proposed pet policy, as new information about the proposal becomes available. Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, April 23, at 10:30 a.m. in 1 Adelbert Hall.

    Staff Recognition Report:

    The committee is reviewing 16 nominations for the President's Award for Distinguished Service. The committee has developed guidelines for a SAC recognition program for outstanding members. Party on the Quad is scheduled for July 25 and the theme this year will be Backyard Barbecue. Staff Recognition will meet Tuesday, April 14, in 1 Adelbert Hall.

    Staff Training and Development Report:

    Please attend the Thursday, April 17, Staff Development Seminar: "Retirement Dreams—Making Them Reality," presented by Human Resources specialist for retirement, Amy Sheldon, at noon in Strosacker Auditorium. Staff Training and Development Committee will meet at noon on Wednesday, April 16, in 1 Adelbert Hall.
