February 2003 Newsletter

Communications Report:

The committee displayed informational posters at the staff forum with President Hundert in December 2002. The committee is developing avenues to reach SAC constituents without e-mail. A guideline for the use of constituent e-mail lists in charitable solicitation had been developed and may be on the agenda for the April business meeting. Communications Committee will meet at noon on Tuesday, February 11, in 351 Adelbert Hall.

Community Services Report:

The committee is currently considering ways in which staff can support local elementary schools, including the Joseph Landis School of Tomorrow and Mary Bethune Elementary, both recipients of funds raised from this past fall's Annual Basket Raffle. In addition, tentative dates for a clothing drive for Dress for Success Cleveland are March 16-23. Volunteers are needed. Discussion of a campus-wide Staff Community Service Day also continues. Community Service Committee will meet at noon on Thursday, February 11 in Tomlinson Food Court.

Elections Report:

Officer nominations were taken at the February Council meeting for vice chair. Elections Committee will meet Tuesday, February 18, at 10:30 a.m. in 720 Crawford Hall.

Fringe Benefits Report:

The committee is looking into retiree medical benefits, tuition reimbursement and tuition exchange consortium. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet at noon on Monday, February 17, in 352 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Policy Report:

The committee is currently discussing the issue of untimely evaluations. We have also continued to discuss the HR-proposed pet policy, as new information about the proposal becomes available. Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, February 26, at 10:30 a.m. in 1 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Recognition Report:

The committee is calling for nominations for the President's Award for Distinguished Service. Submission deadline is Friday, March 14. The committee is developing a SAC recognition program for outstanding members with awards announced at the August business meeting. Plans for Party on the Quad are underway. Staff Recognition will meet Tuesday, February 18, in 1 Adelbert Hall.

Staff Training and Development Report:

The committee distributed a survey at the Benefits Fair to evaluate the need for weekend or evening computer classes at KSL. The committee has developed an evaluation form for its pilot Employee Resource Partnering Program. The committee is evaluating our Employee Resource Library for its Video on Wheels program. The next Video on Wheels is "Telephone Courtesy: You Are the Company," and will be shown at noon on Monday, February 24, in 209 Crawford Hall. Staff Training and Development Committee will meet at noon on Wednesday, February 19, at 1 Adelbert Hall
