February 2002 Newsletter
Communications Report:
Initial tracking of constituent e-mail lists shows positive results. 21 representatives have sent an average of 5 messages apiece since the lists were distributed. The committee will be assisting and encouraging those representatives who have not yet used the lists to begin utilizing this valuable communications tool. The committee will also offer its cooperation to the new ad hoc SAC Visibility Committee. Communications Committee will meet Tuesday, February 12, at 12 noon in 353 Adelbert Hall.
Community Services Report:
The committee met for the first time with its new co-chairs (Kimberly Watts and Judith Olson-Fallon) on Tuesday, February 5. The committee will be working with the Community Service office of Student Affairs and with the University Community Affairs office to develop a list of resources for staff members interested in volunteer opportunities. In addition, the committee is looking to establish one designated volunteer/fundraising opportunity each semester (i.e., the basket raffle during the fall benefits fair) for staff involvement. The committee is seeking new members. The next meeting will be announced.
Elections Report:
Nominations of Council officers were taken from the floor at the Council meeting (2-7-02). The new officers will be elected in April. The committee delivered a basket of goodies to the Fire Station 10 on Chester Avenue, to thank them for their support in our community and also in their aid to victims from 9/11/01. The basket was much appreciated. Elections Committee will meet to discuss a nomination committee for the general election on Tuesday, February 19, at 10:30 a.m. in 604 Crawford Hall.
Fringe Benefits Report:
The committee continues to discuss implementation of an adoption leave benefit at CWRU. The current policy for maternity leave is based on the medical condition of the mother exclusively and does not provide a framework to build an adoption leave policy that provides equitable treatment to adoptive parents. A resolution of support for paid adoption leave will come from the committee in the near future. The committee has begun looking into issues regarding retiree health insurance at the University. Fringe Benefits Committee will meet Monday, February 18, at 12:00 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.
Staff Policy Report:
The committee is discussing untimely performance evaluations. Staff Policy Committee will meet Wednesday, February 27, at 10:30 a.m. in 352 Adelbert Hall.
Staff Recognition Report:
Nominations for the 2002 President's Award for Distinguished Service will be due to the committee by March 15. Nominating procedures are accessible through the SAC Web site. The Committee is planning the next Party on the Quad with staff from Employee Relations. Staff Recognition will meet Tuesday, January 19, at 12 noon in 352 Adelbert Hall.
Staff Training and Development Report:
The committee is focusing its direction on implementing a campus mentoring project, which we will call the Employee Resource Partnering Program. The committee hopes that the program will acquaint new employees to campus. Staff Training and Development will meet Wednesday, February 13, at 12 noon in 1 Adelbert Hall
